The protagonist’s (who is actually the sidekick) Irish accent does move around the island of Ireland a bit, but the protagonist isn’t Irish is he, he’s from a fiction place that is Irish adjacent. I noticed the review that said the narration was off, I disagree, I never would have thought the narrator wasn’t a voice actor, or that they were from Florida. I would recommend this to any DND podcast fan, Pratchett fan (over 18 years old), Joe Abercrombie fan, Stephen King (dark tower) fan, or Anyone who enjoyed the darkly comic dialog in Marlon James’ Dark Star Trilogy. Christopher Buehlman is most often known for Between Two Fires and more horror novels this is about to change very quickly. The sense of adventure and peril and pace all work, I would love to visit that world again, with or without the remaining characters. The Blacktongue Thief is an immense entertainment manifesting in a fantasy novel. For example, the mechanics used to feature lots of female characters with agency is very well thought out and does not jar with a mediaeval setting. Very funny, if you like your humour dark, a very well constructed world that makes sense and is easily relatable. Recent books that have impressed me have been “Black Leopard Red Wolf” by Marlon James and “Fairytale” by Stephen King and this I think from this book is their equal. I’m always trying to find fantasy adventure genre books that surprise me, or are just plane good, if a book exists on a “best of” list, and you can get it on audible, I’ll listen. The Blacktongue Thief is the story of an indebted thief, a veteran knight, a witch-in-training, and a blind rescue cat who must journey together through a world still scarred from a brutal.
